Maze featuring Frankie Beverly

Maze featuring Frankie Beverly
Post #12 – Started on Saturday, July 11, 2009

On the agenda for the evening: To enjoy Maze featuring Frankie Beverly performing at The Beacon in NYC!

If you have never seen MFFB perform, you have deprived yourself of good music and vibes.
It is so hard for me to believe that MFFB has never received an award of any kind! That just makes no sense to me. FB talked about never receiving any awards not even from BET and how it used to bother him but then he realized he may have never received any awards, he has received many, many rewards.

I LOVED that line: no awards but plenty of rewards.

My evening started with dinner at Ocean Grill on Columbus at 78th ( The drinks, food and company were FABULOUS. My group was my two sisters Brenda & Daryl and Courtney a very good friend. If we had not gone anywhere but drinks and dinner it would have been a wonderful evening because we always have a ball together but by adding MFFB to the mix the evening was destined to be like a scrumptious cupcake with the perfect frosting and the just right amount of coconut sprinkled on top.

I was so jazzed about seeing MFFB that I had not paid attention to the opening acts when purchasing the tickets. So it was eventually a pleasant surprise to see Hal Linton, a young Barbadian singer who has been called the Soul Prince of Barbados. I say eventually because he started out with some rap/ spoken word and I was like: Not tonight, tonight I came to hear grown folks R& B/Soul music. Then he segued into a smooth Maxwell-like song that had tinges of Al Green (in my opinion). He was good and I liked what I think was his ability to gauge the audience and adapt his delivery of the song. Now I could be wrong and that was what he had planned to do the whole time but you never know….

Then Mr. Ted Wizard Mills formerly of Blue Magic came out and tore it completely up! He sang Sideshow, What’s Come Over Me, Three Ring Circus, Tear It Down, Chasing Rainbow, etc. etc. His voice was amazing especially when he was hitting the notes – the audience was singing along and loving every minute of it. Mr. Ted Wizard Mills was style personified – he entered the stage with presence and blew kisses like the old school artist he was.

After a short intermission Maze featuring Frankie Beverly set it all the way off! And you know the audience was singing right along to all the songs. Frankie and Maze were at the top of their game especially Frankie who is 62 years old. From head to toe Frankie had his usual white outfit on as he joked about having only a 3 pack, whatever because his pecs were talking to me up in the Loge section of the theater. We Are One, Joy and Pain, Southern Girl, Love Is the Key, Back in Stride, Can’t Stop the Love, I Want to Feel I’m Wanted, Can’t Get Over You, Golden Time of the Day were some of the songs that filled the Beacon with good vibes and joy!

Of course the last song was Before I Let Go which got everyone, including me on our feet. When I stood to shake my tail feather the floor was literally moving, UP DOWN UP DOWN, but I didn’t care, my feeling was: If the floor collapses I will die a happy woman because I am at a Maze featuring Frankie Beverly concert~

Finished on July 17, 2009 @ 12:29 AM – I do take my time sometimes

Rockhouse Hotel Spa!

Rockhouse Hotel Spa!

Back to my Jamaica vacation details: The highlight of my May Jamaica trip would be the Spa @ Rockhouse Hotel (, which is one of my favorite hotels in the world. The vibe that permeates is one of tranquil coolness. People tend to speak in hushed tones and laugh softly. The change in your tone of voice happens naturally, now the laughing part for my crew is different because we enjoy every moment of vacation and if that means we laugh loudly then so be it. LOL to the max~

Now keep in mind the Rockhouse experience is very different from the beach experience as it is located on the cliffs in the West End of Negril. All sun worshipping will take place by the pool or on the porch of your villa. I’ve only stayed in the villas – my first visit I lounged in a (regular) villa and my last visit I relaxed in a premium villa!

Everything about the place screams relaxation and now they have added a spa. That is like diving into a pool of chocolate, swimming a few laps and then laying on a chaise lounge made of marshmallow; you want to pinch yourself silly. However, don’t do that because you will miss the spa and we never want to miss a spa experience.

While we didn’t stay at the Rockhouse, we did visit their spa, which is unusual because a lot of resorts and hotels only allow guests to use the spa. Ten points for Rockhouse Hotel.

I had a 50-minute Swedish massage and then added 30 minutes for a nominal fee. 80 minutes of pampering! One hour and 20 minutes – OMG. I almost screamed out-loud when I realized that meant 30 minutes on each quadrant of my body. I didn’t because Courtney, one of my travel buddies and I were sharing a massage room so I didn’t want to disturb her vibe.

After my therapist worked my back out, I was SET for the rest of the day. I try to use visualization, breathing and just plain old letting things roll off my back to minimize stress so I am proud to say that my back knots tend to be minimal. For the few stubborn knots that refused to exit, she attacked them with strong hands that she used to knead out of existence leaving behind a puddle of Jell-O-like muscles. Cue the church music – cue the Angels singing: Hallelujah!

If you ever find yourself in Negril, Jamaica and you want to experience both the beach and the cliffs you must, must, must stay at the Rockhouse Hotel! If that doesn’t fit your budget you can just get yourself a massage and then have lunch at the restaurant. Trust me - You will not regret it.
Hope this was Tasty and Informative like Cupcakes & Travel Magazines for you.

It’s my 10th Anniversary!

Hello Everyone! I just wanted to share that 7/7 was the 10th anniversary of my last chemo treatment for breast cancer!

God is good all the time even when we aren't sure. 10 years - my how the time flies --- I wanted to commemorate this date for several reasons:

#1 - I am always looking for a celebration because there is always the possibility of gifts from my immediate family (I am only partially joking - LOL).

#2 - I want to remind people that monthly five-finger exams work to detect breast cancer along with a yearly mammogram.

#3 - A diagnosis of cancer is not a death sentence -- look at me --- ten years away from my original diagnosis ---modern medicine is a gift from the Creator that I give THANKS for
each and every day.

Live Life to the fullest - make sure you have a list of things you want to do and start doing them --- Life is short and we only come this way once! Some of the things I've done in the last 10 years:
·I've obtained my obtained MBA
·Am currently enrolled in a MFA program for creative writing
·Completed my novel (now I just have to get it sold)
·Learned how to belly dance - yes I did

Some of the things I want to do in the next 10 years:
·Learn how to surf
·Adopt a child -- maybe (Lord help me - smile)
·Buy a condo
·Teach creative writing on the college level
·Start a foundation - not sure for what but I will start one
·Etc, etc, etc

What will you etc. be for the next 10 years - you may not know now but takethe time to think about it and then do it! We all deserve to LOVE our lives~

Love, Peace, Joy & Blessings to you all~
