#AssaultAtSpringValleyHigh

October 27, 2015

Why are people surprised that the school cop who bench presses like 300+ lbs treated that young woman like a rag doll? Black people are not valued or viewed as worthy of respect. Not Black Men, Black Women and Black Children.

We wonder how this happens every time this happens. Let's keep it 100: Black, Red and Brown people are viewed as dangerous. Plain and simple.

No matter how you dress. No matter how you speak. No matter how much education you have. You can be on the phone (unarmed) with a tow service by the side of the road and you will be shot and killed because you must be dangerous b/c you are Black.

REMEMBER THIS: When the color of your skin is seen as a deadly weapon - YOU WILL NEVER BE SEEN AS UNARMED.

PS Here's the best part: Mr. School Cop dates a Black Woman so he can't possibly be racist as per the Sheriff. Plenty a racist has laid down with a Black Woman. Ding, ding, ding: Every slave owner who used his property the way he wanted to.

I'm sure School cop sees his Black Girlfriend as DIFFERENT, NOT REALLY BLACK and SPECIAL. All those non-compliments are used to make certain Black Folks feel like they are part of the circle. Those are INSULTS stop saying that to your special Black Friends. If they say they are cool with those words: they are LYING to you.

It all makes me want to HOLLER!

And don't get me started with the UNCLE RUCKUS teacher!

I'm Trusting, Believing & Knowing...

October 20, 2015

Things are coming together. Slowly but surely and slowly is the key word. You see I haven’t always been patient. But I’m getting better at it each day. And the situation that is serving as a path to patience for me is my job hunt.  Too many resumes sent out to count. And of course what I’d being willing to get out of the bed for, get dressed for, leave my house and possibly commute to NYC has not been presenting itself. Yes I know what we desire is not always what is best for us.

So I received yet another rejection email. The funny thing about this rejection is it was for a job I didn’t remember applying to. So I posted about it on my Facebook page and someone replied that I was supposed to be working for myself. I replied to that reply and said I understood and that I was making my way to that goal but in the meantime I needed an ‘in the meantime’ job.

The ‘replier’ sent me a link about a side gig I had never thought of: teaching college classes online. The college will train you and you don’t need teaching experience but I do have teaching via the local public schools Adult & Continuing Education program so I’m half way there.

Then this afternoon I met with someone to talk about doing social media for their small business. I’ll be posting on her company’s Facebook page, creating a blog for her, creating promotions to get people in the door and finding new catering business for her. Gig #1. Yeah!!!!

This evening I filled out an application for the online college to teach a class. Now I will wait to hear back from the school. Hopefully it will become Gig #2.

Lastly I’ve wanted to teach literacy to children for a while but found out that I will have to go back to graduate school, get certified, teach for a few years and then return to get certified as a Literacy Specialist. What?! Why is the education system making it hard to teach children how to read? I don’t have an answer but I’ve moved on to working toward becoming a Literacy Volunteer and teaching adults how to read.

So today I connected with the woman who runs the literacy program and it looks like I’ll be in the January training class. In the meantime before training starts I’ll be working with some of the people in the literacy program who need help with their resumes. Gig #3.

Things are coming together in their time not mine. I’m getting it I’m getting it.

I’ve opened myself. I’ve reached out. And I’ve received.

Oh and I’ve finished my novel. Will do one final read through and then send off to Editor. WoooHoooo!!!!!!!

It’s all coming together. Slowly but surely. I am trusting, believing and knowing.

And as my sister Daryl used to say all the time: Stay open at the top.

I’m letting my earthly angels (the replier) as well as my other-worldly angels (Daryl, Melvina and others who have walked on) help me.

Everything I said I want to do is coming to fruition. I will be doing all the things I enjoy.

Yes I am, trusting and believing.

Today was a very productive day!!!

Sometimes Forgiveness is Not Enough

I just saw a story about an Episcopal Church that had one black parishioner for 59 years. She was never accepted in the church. She was tolerated by the congregation. Tolerated is defined as: Allowing the existence, occurrence, or practice of (something that one does not necessarily like or agree with) without interference.

She was given communion via a separate chalice.

Recently the church had a service of repentance asking for forgiveness for the treatment of this woman, the only black member in the church's 134 year history.

You can imagine I'm feeling some kind of way about this story plain and simple. I guess I appreciate their long overdue repentance, kinda sorta. What is giving me that 'some kind of way' feeling is her continuing to attend a church that treated her in such a hateful manner. Church should be your solace from a cruel world (IMO).

Why would she subject herself to such disdain for such a long time? I know someone is going to say she was being a good Christian - I can't with that one. Christianity demands too much forgiveness from the oppressed.

There is no resolution to this post. Not pat answer. No unicorns and fairy dust. This post is just an observation on my part.

How people treat people is sometimes incomprehensible to me. Sadly this is one of those instances.

Hope this has been informative. I can't say tasty because all I have is a bad taste in my mouth.

The next post will be Tasty & Informative like Cupcakes & Travel Magazines. I promise.

I Am Tired of Looking for Work

Listen I am tired of looking for work but must continue because I need to make a living. I’ve surprised myself with how well I live on a small amount of money. We really can make do. And I almost forgot about the kindness of loved ones. Praise God for family. I shudder to think what my life would be like if I was not loved and my sister and I had not been raised to help each other out in lean times.

I don’t really worry-worry to tell the truth because of my Fairy Sister and my faith. It always seems when my funds are low, money comes to me via an envelope from a loving cousin with a note to have lunch on her or from an Aunt & Uncle who let me know they love me with stickers all over the envelope. Life is good and when I forget something happens to make me remember.

So I keep sending out resumes and hoping and wishing and dreaming, and most importantly trusting that the Universe will open the door at the right moment. I will say that I am down to one degree on my resume because that’s what you gotta do these days to get a job because you know if you are too educated the powers-that-be presume you will leave when the market picks up. Picks up? When?

The market has sucked for like 8 years so let us not act like things are going to rebound back to what it used to be. Not going to happen. And who cares if I do leave before 30 years pass by (yeah that kind of longevity no longer exists); in all probability the job will lay me off before I decide to move on. If I get hired because most companies utilize temp workers like someone is paying them.  Now that I think about it someone is probably getting a bonus based on lowering costs which happens when you don’t have to pay benefits, match 401K funds and pay for vacations.

When I do manage to get an interview I make sure I don’t date myself by the things I refer to because you know when you are over 40 you don’t know anything, you’re stuck in your ways, you aren’t quick enough and just plain old. These are all silly assumptions. Truth: When you are over 40 you have an endless amount of tacit knowledge and experience, you know how to work and you don’t feel entitled to be the VP by the end of the next quarter.

So I will keep sending my abridged resume out while I am hoping, wishing, dreaming, trusting and LIVING.

Hope this has been Tasty and Informative like Cupcakes & Travel Magazines.

Peace to you all!

Oh Noooooo You're a Republican!

Have you ever realized that someone you've known for years is the opposite of you regarding politics? Well that happened to me today. I was aghast when I found out she was a republican. I literally put my hand up between her and I. I was like Noooooooooooooo in my head.

She couldn't believe I am a Democrat, which is funny b/c most folks make an assumption with me being Black and all. She is white. We talked, went back and forth for a few. I was trying to figure out how I missed this. I started going over our past conversations, flipping through them at mach speed as if I were zipping through an old school Rolodex.

And then she told me to get the real truth I needed to watch Fox News. I thought I was watching a bad comedy show. I asked her if she were serious or joking. She said she was serious. She said you have to watch Sean Hannity to get the truth. I asked her 3x if she were serious about Sean and she said she was and seemed perplexed at my asking her that question. So I said 'Let's stop now.' And I took my four fingers and let them meet my thumb in the stop-talking-sign message.

Before moving on I told her I watch MSNBC. I offered that most of the shows on MSNBC are opinion and they don't try to say their opinion shows are news like faux news. I had to get that out before we moved on.

We've always talked about positivity, life, traveling and stuff like that. I don't even remember how we got onto politics today. I am proud that while we were both horrified at the other's choices we managed to move onto something we both agreed on, which is: Rachel white-woman-faking-black Dolezal is beyond crazy. LOL

PS I did wish I had some Holy Water to sprinkle on her and I'm not even Catholic. LOL

Hope this has been tasty & entertaining like Cupcakes & Travel Magazines!
